Sea vegetables have long been treasured in Japan as a delicious, versatile and above all nutritious food. Wakame, with its tender dark green fronds, has a pleasing mild flavour and is versatile and easy to use in soups, salads and vegetable dishes. Hand harvested in the clear mineral rich waters off the coast of Japan then it is washed then hung on ropes and left to slowly dry in the sun. Unlike most commercial wakame, Clearspring Wakame is not treated with softening agents such as enzymes or monosodium glutamate (MSG).
Simply soak, cut into suitably sized pieces and add to your favourite dishes. It is especially delicious added to miso soup, sautจฆed with onions or served with blanched greens. It also combines especially well with cucumber, spring onions and ginger with a lime juice & miso vinegar dressing.
Clearspring Wakame is Undaria pinnatifida, a brown seaweed, cultivated and dried in Japan which turns bright green when soaked.

Delicate fronds of dark green wakame have a pleasant mild flavour and a soft tender texture. Versatile and easy to use. Ideal to add to miso soup, salads and stir-fries.
To prepare, simply wash and soak in lukewarm water for 10-15 minutes. If desired, remove the stalk and chop into pieces. For soups and stir-fries, add the softened wakame at the end of cooking to retain its delicate flavour.
Wakame, like kombu is often added to the cooking of beans for softening purposes and then discarded.
