  • Ingredients: Organically grown roasted green tea leaves

    Product weight: 20 bags (36g)

Clearspring Organic Hojicha is grown in the luscious rolling hills around Kyoto and Kyushu, areas known for their ideal climatic and soil conditions which produce some of the finest tea in Japan. The unique character of Hojicha comes from ageing and roasting the tea leaves, giving them a distinct nutty aroma and smoky flavour. Whilst our Hojicha can be enjoyed at any time of the day, it is perfect after a meal or as a calming evening tea to help you unwind.

  • Third Generation Tea Family from Kyoto, Japan

In the hills around Kyoto, the third generation of the Nagata family use special organic methods, known as Nature Farming, to produce a range of exquisite green teas for Clearspring.

The ancient farming approach used by the Nagatas builds up soil vitality by maintaining a semi-wild environment, where the plants are not overly protected and gain nourishment from repeated applications of compost made from tea clippings and dried leaves, which together with regular mulching helps control weed growth and maintain soil moisture.

Whilst most tea farmers spray their plants with pesticides and herbicides 15-20 times a year, the Nagatas' tea bushes have a vigour that enables them to thrive without chemical inputs.

The Nagatas' yields may be lower than average but their plants have far less mould and blight. They remain productive for up to 40 years, twice as long as the typical tea bush treated with chemicals.

As well as growing tea, the Nagatas undertake the skilful blanching, drying and roasting processes to bring out the unique flavours of each individual blend.

Refreshing yet relaxing

This is by far my favourite tea. It’s invigorating, but relaxing at the same time. Basically just makes you happy. How is that possible? I was upset I couldn’t find it at my local waitrose anymore and was so happy to see it’s still sold online.

水だけは最低限ブリタとかでミネラル抜いたほうが美味しい。
好みだが水が硬すぎると香りが弱く感じ苦味が早く出る。

Delicious tea

This tea is delicious! I recently switched from drinking regular caffeinated tea to green tea, and this has become my regular cuppa.

Refreshing and So Flavoursome.

I first used Clearspring many years ago and regularly ordered Bancha Twig Tea which I steeped in hot water.
Then I visited Japan a few years ago and drank Hojicha and loved it.
When I discovered Clearspring sold it, I bought some and am not disappointed-it is just as good and I can buy it in the UK.
Wonderful!
