  • Third Generation Tea Family from Kyoto, Japan

In the hills around Kyoto, the third generation of the Nagata family use special organic methods, known as Nature Farming, to produce a range of exquisite green teas for Clearspring.

The ancient farming approach used by the Nagatas builds up soil vitality by maintaining a semi-wild environment, where the plants are not overly protected and gain nourishment from repeated applications of compost made from tea clippings and dried leaves, which together with regular mulching helps control weed growth and maintain soil moisture.

Whilst most tea farmers spray their plants with pesticides and herbicides 15-20 times a year, the Nagatas' tea bushes have a vigour that enables them to thrive without chemical inputs.

The Nagatas' yields may be lower than average but their plants have far less mould and blight. They remain productive for up to 40 years, twice as long as the typical tea bush treated with chemicals.

As well as growing tea, the Nagatas undertake the skilful blanching, drying and roasting processes to bring out the unique flavours of each individual blend.

Japanese Tea Samples

I’m not a tea drinker but thought them worth a try in order to cut down on coffee. I found each of them pleasant with unique and different tastes along with health benefits.

Super Sample pack

Great selection and I could hardly decide which to try first. Sadly I could not manage the caffeine - had so hoped I could enjoy this more gentle form. Love Marcha and Green yea but will have to try the caffeine free Kawu Matcha.

Hi Claire, thank you for taking the time to leave a review, it's really appreciated.

Sorry to hear you could not manage the caffeine. It's true that green tea is not as high in caffeine as black tea or coffee, but it can still be strong if you're sensitive to caffeine.

However, our roasted Green Teas (Kukicha and Hojicha) are very low in caffeine. It's not zero as it starts with the same leaves as green tea, but it is very close and shouldn't cause any issues unless you are highly sensitive.

Hope this helps.

A great palette of wonderful taste

Thank you for send me this selection of teas, each of them was special in its own way and introduced me to different taste in green tea.
The Sencha, Matcha and the roasted one were my favorites
I have used the Sencha for a long time now and it is still my favourite, pure taste and comforting feeling
