Matcha is finely ground green tea leaf powder and is the most prized amongst Japanese teas. It has been drunk as part of the tea ceremony for 900 years as well as by Buddhist monks during long days of meditation.
This very concentrated form of green tea is drunk as a fine powder diffused in liquid so you actually ingest the whole leaf, consuming every last bit of goodness.

In the hills around Kyoto, the third generation of the Nagata family use special organic methods, known as Nature Farming, to produce a range of exquisite green teas for Clearspring.
The ancient farming approach used by the Nagatas builds up soil vitality by maintaining a semi-wild environment, where the plants are not overly protected and gain nourishment from repeated applications of compost made from tea clippings and dried leaves, which together with regular mulching helps control weed growth and maintain soil moisture.
Whilst most tea farmers spray their plants with pesticides and herbicides 15-20 times a year, the Nagatas' tea bushes have a vigour that enables them to thrive without chemical inputs.
The Nagatas' yields may be lower than average but their plants have far less mould and blight. They remain productive for up to 40 years, twice as long as the typical tea bush treated with chemicals.
As well as growing tea, the Nagatas undertake the skilful blanching, drying and roasting processes to bring out the unique flavours of each individual blend.
After 58 years of refusing to drink (how I used to describe it as) perfumed tea (one taste of Earl Grey and I was not touching another drop) I’ve been an avid black tea drinker (with caffeine might I hasten to add) .... my brother introduced me to Matcha Turmeric (thought it might help reduce my swollen knee joints) ...... OMG I’m totally hooked (had to suffer a migraine with not drinking the usual but I’m over that now), this is a totally amazing tea, smooth and pleasant to drink and it has really aided the diuretics! I don’t fancy a cup of black tea any longer as this is more pleasing ..... can’t give it enough credit and well done Clear Spring for making this combination.
I find the taste quite delicate and subtle and yet very uplifting and refreshing. I tend to have it as my first cup early in the morning for that much needed lift me up feel without the jitters which I used to get from real coffee.
