Clearspring Organic Mu Tea is a delicious caffeine-free blend of twelve invigorating and soothing oriental herbs.
It contains mandarin orange peel, liquorice root, Japanese ginseng, cinnamon and other exotic oriental herbs that combine to create a sweet tasting, spicy and aromatic blend.
Mu Tea was formulated by the Japanese diet and health philosopher, George Ohsawa (founder of the Macrobiotic diet and philosophy), in the 1950s based on his studies of the energetic properties of traditional oriental herbs. The word Mu in Japanese means 'an ideal state of balance'.
In fact it is suggested that this careful combination of these 12 herbs, each containing different yin and yang elements, interact and complement each other in such a way that the resulting effect is more than just the arithmetic sum of the herb properties.

A lot of work goes into the making of this tea. Not only do all the herbs have to be grown and subsequently harvested they are then cut, washed, dried, sieved before finally being packed. Great care is taken to bring out and maintain the original colour, flavour and aroma of the herbs. Several of the herbs are grown in Vietnam where our tea is also packed.
This organic 12 herb Mu tea replaces our previous non organic Mu tea version which was made of sixteen aromatic herbs. In line with Clearspring’s objective of moving towards a fully Organic company by 2018 we had to slightly change the formulation of this tea as not all of the ingredients could be sourced organically.

For the perfect brew, allow one teabag per person, add freshly boiled water and infuse for 5 minutes or longer for more flavour.Alternatively Mu Tea mixed with Apple Juice is also delicious either hot or cold with ice.
The producers of our new organic Mu teas are a family-run company, founded in 1991 in Vietnam. Their aim from the outset was, and still is, to deliver natural, organic, and healthy snacking food, fruits and teas. Utilising the climate, organic nature of the land and farming knowledge of the local people they hope to highlight why Vietnam is perfectly placed to produce natural products of the very highest quality. One such example is the growing of Neem plants amongst the tea trees to act as a natural insect repellent.
As well as being tasty and healthy, this producer believes food should be ethical, both from an environmental point of view, and a humanitarian one, which is why they always pay above the local average to their workers and for their ingredients. In fact they aim to pay 30% extra to their farmers and provide training along with funding.
Our producer grows a lot of ingredients themselves on a farm close to the packing facility. However when you envisage this ‘farm’ don’t imagine a large scale European arable farm. Instead think of fields surrounded by lush jungle vegetation that are buzzing with wildlife, in the heart of Vietnam.
In addition to this they work with a few carefully selected farmers who share similar environmental ethics. They look to build strong relationships with their suppliers to enable management of the supply chain at all levels, meaning that they can always provide consistent quality products at fair prices that contain no preservatives, artificial flavourings, colourings, additives or GMO ingredients. Ultimately, this attention to detail results in high quality products with an unparalleled taste.
Alongside their general farming ethos of keeping everything as natural as possible, they are also committed to converting as much of their energy supply to renewable sources, such as biomass and solar. Finally they have set up two herbal medicine museums, with the aim of hoping to pass on some of the knowledge they have gleaned about how the natural world can provide so many of the things we need and solutions to the problems we face.
