Health Benefits of Complex Sugars

Clearspring offers a range of sweet foods such as traditional grain-based sweeteners, like malts and amazake [1], and fruit spreads made using apple juice concentrate.

When considering the health impact of sweeteners, a couple of questions arise. How refined is the sweetener? And how does its sweetness affects blood sugar levels?

Having considered these questions, Clearspring does not use or offer the traditional, unrefined, traditional sweeteners, honey and maple syrup, nor refined sweeteners like sugar.

What Clearspring does offer is a range of malt syrups containing the more slowly absorbed natural sugar, maltose, and amazake, which still contains all the goodness of whole grain, with nothing being removed during its production.

The benefit of these more slowly absorbed, less refined sweeteners is that they require full digestion, releasing their sweetness slowly and gently to fuel the body without creating a sugar rush. Also, along with their sweetness, come other nutrients like fibre, vitamins and minerals to provide a more balanced food.
