This month I would like to take the opportunity to pay tribute to one of my personal heroes - Masanobu Fukuoka - who passed away on the 16th of August at the age of 95. He was the pioneer of ‘natural farming’, an organic [1] method by which crops are grown without ploughing, weeding, fertilizers and pesticides. He won awards in India and the Philippines for his work and wrote the widely translated and truly inspirational book ‘The One Straw revolution’. Fukuoka died of natural causes at his home in Ehime Prefecture, Japan, with his family around him. I have admired his work for many years and would love to have met him.
Best wishes,
