Clearspring January 2010

Body:

Welcome to our January Newsletter and Happy New Year.

Here is my message and recommendations for 2010.

  • Get to know and respect your neighbours, both in your street and nearby countries. Our social nature is what has put human beings at the top of the evolutionary ladder.
  • Be less opinionated and stop passing the buck. Rather, discover ways and take actions to make a better world for all.
  • Start eating more organic foods, for your health and that of the planet. Whether global warming is a reality or not can be debated endlessly. However, what is certain is that much of our food, water and air is polluted and supporting organic farming can go a long way to reducing this pollution.
  • Go for First Hand Nutrition with more emphasis on wholegrain, beans and pulses as your staple foods. Learn about the origin of your foods - the primary source of your health.
  • Principles before profit. You cannot 'take' profit with you, but solid principles left behind can benefit generations to come.
  • Thank your parents for the opportunities they gave you.
  • Give your children a chance. Listen and learn from them rather than constantly trying to force your prejudices and expectations on them.
Best wishes, Christopher Dawson

Behind the Scenes at Clearspring

Clearspring is a truly international company. As well as sourcing high quality products from many parts of the world, we distribute to 32 coutries around the world − click here to find out where. This international feel is very much reflected in the staff too, who come from many different places including New Zealand, the UK, Japan and Italy, and the way we passed the festive season. Many people returned to their respective countries while our chairman Christopher went to Japan on New Year’s Day to give seasonal greetings to our suppliers. Those of us who remained in London shared a tasty bowl of ‘year-end soba’ in the traditional Japanese way. We hope you enjoyed the festivities as much as we did.

Shape Up for the New Year

Now that Christmas and New Year are over, many of us will be thinking about our waistlines and considering new diets. Of course, the true key to a healthy diet is balance and common sense. Make sure you're eating plenty of whole grains, fruits and vegetables. All of these are packed with vitamins and minerals and some have low GI - glycemic index. Obviously, you should also cut out processed and refined foods wherever possible. For a healthy, tasty, low GI food, we recommend Clearspring Organic Italian Semi Whole Pasta, which is made from either semi whole spelt or semi wholewheat flour.

New Series

With the New Year, we see the return of an old friend. Many of you will have followed the seasonal vegetable series from 2008, which focused on the summer vegetables. Well, now it’s back and it’s time to look at all the delicious winter veg on offer, starting with… the carrot. Click on the recipe link below for a tasty carrot recipe and click here for some interesting carrot facts.
