Making Clearspring’s Organic Cold Pressed Oils
Unlike many oils on the market, Clearspring’s range of organic oils is entirely cold pressed, ensuring that full flavour and nutrition is fully maintained. It also means that the oil, with the exception of Sunflower Frying Oil, which is deodorised by a natural steam process, does not go through the common artificial refining processes.
Oleificio Sabo, Clearspring’s Organic oil supplier, has their principal nut and seed oil pressers in Lugano, Switzerland. From Italy, they choose exceptional, 100% Italian Extra Virgin Olive Oil; from Austria, Styrian Toasted Pumpkin Seed and Walnut Oils; from France, Hazelnut Oil and from Australia, Safflower Oil. All locations combine traditional, entirely natural production methods with state of the art technology to ensure that oil is produced to preserve the health qualities and no solvents are used.
Each batch of seeds is rigorously inspected prior to pressing. The pressing is done using a continuous screw press, literally a giant screw into which the raw seeds are placed, and out of which pours the pure oil.
Although the friction will cause the temperature to rise a little, no additional heat is added, ensuring that no rancidity starts and only the purest, finest oil is collected at the other end. The pulp that remains after this process is then put through a heat press to produce a second extraction, although this is not used for Clearspring’s Oils.
At Sabo, 2,500 bottles of oil are packed every hour by their very advanced bottling facility. Just another example of how the company combines traditional methods with state-of-the-art technology in order to bring you some of the finest cold pressed oils available.
